BENEFITS OF BEER MARQUE

QUALITY

The Beer Marque is a sign of quality draught beer being served, be it cask, keg, lager or stout.

THE PERFECT BEER

Fresh aromas, a tingle on the tongue, cold with condensation on the outside, beautiful branded glass, vibrant bubbles rising up the glass…what makes your perfect pint?

HIGH STANDARDS

High standards in the cellar and great training are what allows a pub to consistently serve the best beer. Without these the beer is likely to be inconsistent at best.

ACCREDITATION

Beer Marque is an accreditation for outlets of all types which serve great beer and have great cellar standards to ensure they can consistently offer a great beer experience.

PEACE OF MIND

If you see The Beer Marque plaque outside a pub then you can be assured that we have checked cellar standards as well as been served a variety of great beers with perfect presentation.

WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR YOU?

BEER MARQUE

Pub accreditation for great quality of ALL beer

Who can apply: Any outlet can apply as long as they have a range of beers containing at least 4 of the following: Premium lager, standard lager, keg, stout, cask. If you are unsure whether your range is suitable please call us on 01206 752212 and we can help with any query.

What does it cost?: £195 + VAT to apply and £160 to renew the membership each year.

What do we test: Up to a maximum of 5 different style beers on each visit. Each beer is tested for temperature, appearance, aroma and taste. In addition to this we check glass cleanliness, head size, head retention, overspill, correct branded (or non-branded glass), hand not touching the rim, logo facing the customer. Once a year we also carry out a ‘Scores on the Cellar Doors’ visit.

How do you pass?: With Cask Marque the visit is either a “pass” or a “fail”. With Beer Marque an outlet is given an overall star rating from 0 to 5, with 5 being the best. We add up all the points from the 4 or 5 beers checked and add these to the points gained in the Scores on the Cellar Doors audit.

95% = 5 star rating
90% = 4 star rating
80% = 3 star rating
70% = 2 star rating
60% = 1 star rating
<60% = 0 stars

How often do we visit: Every 6 months after the initial visit. 10% of pubs receive a surprise visit each year and we also follow up complaints from consumers if beer quality isn’t up to scratch.

Consumer recognition: This is a brand new scheme, learning from the 20 years we have been running the Cask Marque scheme.

What do I get when I become accredited?: External enamel plaque, framed certificate, drip mats, bar runners, posters.
